Former Illinois football player Jody Ellis pleaded guilty to felony theft Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 120 days in jail and 30 months of probation.

Ellis and teammate Derrick McPhearson were arrested on March 2, 2007, after police found stolen wallets, cell phones and laptop computers in their car, which had just been involved in an accident.

They were then kicked off the football team.

On Feb. 22, McPhearson, 22, of Hyattsville, Md., was sentenced to 30 months’ probation and 180 days in jail after pleading guilty to theft.

Four counts of residential burglary and two counts of felony theft were dismissed against Ellis, 21, an Evanston graduate.

In McPhearson’s case, four counts of burglary and one theft charge were dismissed.
