Vanessa DiBernardo, Waubonsie Valley’s all-state soccer player, suffered a severe ankle sprain Tuesday and will be out “10 days to two weeks,” her father said.

“We found out through an MRI,” said Angelo DiBernardo, a teacher at Waubonsie Valley and the school’s boys soccer coach. “There was concern about it being a fracture, but that came back negative.”

DiBernardo, a sophomore, leads the Warriors (13-0-1) with 11 goals this season. She also has five assists for the team, which is favored to win another state title and is on a 45-game unbeaten streak.

She suffered the injury in Tuesday’s victory over St. Charles North.

DiBernardo, a participant in U.S. Soccer’s Olympic Development Program, is expected to return by May 14 when the No. 1 seeded Warriors play in a regional semifinal.
