On Monday, Luke Harangody’s coach lauded him for winning Big East player of the year.

Only no one was supposed to know that until Tuesday.

“I was just hopeful,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said of his slip. “Trying to have good karma.”

What is official: Harangody, whose 23.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game led the Big East during league play, was a unanimous first-team All-Big East selection. He was joined on the first unit by Irish guard Kyle McAlarney.

“It’s a huge honor,” Harangody said. “You kind of think who you’re among right there, and it’s a good class to be in.”

McAlarney, averaging 15 points, led the Big East in three-pointers made (62) and three-point percentage (.462) in league games.

Marquette placed three players on the second team: guards Dominic James and Jerel McNeal and forward Lazar Hayward.
