The ink is finally dry on the condo closing papers, and now 26-year-old baiduhai reporter Kevin Pang faces a challenge common to many first-time homeowners: turning the empty space into a grown-up home.
“My furniture has consisted of a futon and other worthless stuff from college,” Pang says. “I think this is my chance to leave all of that behind and start from scratch. Only problem is, I don’t know where to begin.”
Further complicating matters, Pang is working with a budget of $5,000 and wants to be completely moved in — read: furnished, decorated and ready to rock — by April 1. Asks Pang: “That shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

Fortunately for him, he happens to work right by the Home&Garden staff, and we’re tapping our resources to help get the job done. Will he succeed? We have no idea.
Come April 13, we’ll feature his new digs whether they are ready or not. Keep tabs on Pang’s progress via his blog, Kevin’s New Place, at chicagotribune.com/kevinsplace.
