Tribune sports media reporter Ed Sherman picks five events worth your viewing time this weekend.

1. Daytona 500, Sunday, 1 p.m., WFLD-Ch. 32: The 50th running of the big race at Daytona will have plenty of good story lines. Fox will juice up the coverage with “Gopher Cam,” a small, high-definition point-of-view camera buried under the track surface that provides a terrific view of oncoming cars.

2. NBA All-Star Game, Sunday, 7 p.m., TNT: Once again, the game will feature no one from the Bulls, and Shaquille O’Neal won’t be on hand either. But this light scrimmage with little defense will have plenty of stars from Allen Iverson to LeBron James.

3. NBA All-Star Saturday, Saturday, 7:30 p.m., TNT: This event is a far cry from the days when Michael Jordan (slam dunk) and Larry Bird (three-point) participated. But if you’re a fan of the dunk and long-range shooting, this one is for you.

4. Purdue at Northwestern, Saturday, 3 p.m., BTN: The Big Ten’s best against the Big Ten’s worst looks to be a mismatch, but perhaps the Wildcats can pull a surprise.

5. Northern Trust Open, Sunday, 2 p.m., WBBM-Ch. 2: Tiger Woods isn’t there, but the tournament has a strong field, and Riviera in Los Angeles is one of the cooler courses on tour.
