Timing is everything for Immaculate Conception and

.
Last season, the Knights finished with a 24-6 record but were disappointed with an earlier-than-expected elimination in the Class A girls basketball playoffs.
This season they have an 8-17 record. But there’s optimism as the new four-class playoffs begin Monday.
With just more than 200 students, about half of whom are girls, Immaculate Conception is in the new Class 1A. After taking a licking against schools such as 3A powers Rosary and Montini in the Suburban Catholic, Hayes and the Knights are prepared for play in the smallest division.
“I think playing a tough schedule during the season is good for us,” said Hayes, a 5-foot 8-inch senior who leads the team with a 16-point scoring average.
The Knights, who last won a sectional title in 1980, host a regional and begin play Tuesday against the winner of the Chicagoland Jewish-Luther East game.
