MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.–Has the Barack Obama press office caught a computer virus?
As usual, the Obama press office sent out an email this morning to reporters around the country under the subject header “Barack Obama Public Schedule.” Only this time, instead of the candidate’s schedule for the day, the email was a pitch for a telephone service provider.
Update:
The Obama campaign issued a statement this afternoon from a contractor, iContact, explaining that iContact accidentally sent out an email intended for a different client to the Obama press list. The company blamed a bug in its computer system.
“iContact has Obama for America as a client. The morning around 9am iContact experienced a sending issue in which clients had content from the wrong client go out to their lists. The message Obama for America sent to their press list at 9am this morning was affected by this bug. Obama for America is not in any way buying, selling, or sharing email addresses, or sending unsolicited email. iContact is a permission-based email service provider. We are blogging about updates at http://www.icontact.com/blog/.” said Ryan Allis, CEO of iContact.
