player ready...Allison Mocchi led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points in helping No. 2
stay perfect with a 69-42 victory over
on Thursday and advance to the semifinals of the 25th annual Dundee-Crown Charger Classic girls basketball tournament.
Questions about Mocchi’s right knee–she suffered a dislocation in last season’s state quarterfinal loss to Morton–have surfaced, and she admits the injury still bothers her at times.
“Somedays I don’t have any pain,,” said Mocchi, who also had seven rebounds and four steals. “But some days it’s just the wear and tear of everyday play.”
She had 10 of her points and all of her rebounds as Buffalo Grove (15-0) grabbed a 40-17 halftime lead. The Bison trailed 9-8 with four minutes left in the first quarter, but then went on a 19-0 run that was capped by Mocchi’s three-pointer early in the second quarter for a 27-9 lead.
Twin sister Maggie Mocchi (both are going to Northwestern next year) contributed 16 points with seven steals and Ellen Ayoub had a double-double–15 points, 11 rebounds.
Maureen Sullivan’s 16 points led Mother McAuley (10-5).
