New Trier, which had lost its last two games, got back on track with a 48-36 victory over Johnsburg.
The Trevians, who have fallen out of The Tribune’s top 20 rankings, are 10-5 and will meet Naperville Central in the Dundee-Crown quarterfinals Thursday.
Meg Napoli had 19 points, Molly Quirke 12 and Emily Higgins 10 for New Trier.
Staying healthy has been an issue for the Trevians, who lost Jessie Atlas for the season with a torn ACL. Quirke is returning after suffering a concussion and Napoli said “we were all sick.”
“The break did us a lot of good because a lot of us are recovering from a lot of stuff,” said Napoli, who is recovering from a horrid shooting night–0-for-15, she was told–in a recent loss to Lake Zurich. “We’re going back to basics, working on fundamentals because a lot of our problems were being out of control.
“Our shooting was awful the past few games. So we’re working on that a lot. And we needed to come together after losing Jess. We just needed to have a good game to get back on track.”
Napoli, Quirke and Higgins made 17 of their 32 field-goal attempts in the victory. Michelle McDonald led Johnsburg with 15 points.
