What Tom Brady has done with his arm for the New England Patriots this season has been sensational.

Brady is just the fifth quarterback in NFL history to throw 40 touchdown passes in a season, and he still has four games remaining to pursue Peyton Manning’s record of 49.

Brady is completing 70.23 percent of his passes in a bid to become just the fifth quarterback to finish a season at 70 percent. Ken Anderson set the NFL record for the Cincinnati Bengals in the strike-shortened 1982 season (nine games) at 70.55 percent.

Also, Brady’s 123.4 passer efficiency rating is 2.3 better than the NFL record set by Manning in 2004 (121.1).

More impressive is what Brady has not done with his arm — turn the ball over. He has thrown 430 passes with only five interceptions. Brady has avoided the mistakes that can beat his team, which is why the Patriots are 12-0.

Only two NFL quarterbacks have ever done a better job of protecting the ball: Steve DeBerg with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1990 and Steve Bartkowski with the Atlanta Falcons in 1983.

DeBerg threw only four interceptions in 444 passes and Bartkowski five in 432 passes. Brady could zoom by Bartkowski on Sunday.

The best performance this decade was by Brad Johnson, who threw only six picks in 451 passes with Tampa Bay in 2002.
