Attention dog lovers, especially aficionados of the maligned aggregate of breeds collectively known as pit bulls.

The court-appointed special master overseeing the fate of roughly 49 of the former denizens of Bad Newz Kennels has just issued an application for animal rescue organizations to adopt one or more of the canines.

Dogs have been divided into 4 categories depending on level of aggression and adoption is open to non-profit animal rescue operations with a minimum of three years experience handling animals, according to guidelines established by Rebecca Huss, the Valparaiso University law prof serving as special master. At least some of the dogs may end up with better accomodations than Vick, the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback. Vick has pleaded guilty with three others to federal charges connected to running a dog-fighting ring and awaits sentencing.

Vick also faces state charges in Virginia.
