Young’s Bill Prosecky and Payton’s Annie Quast felt good after the Public League golf championships Friday at Indian Boundary.
Prosecky shot a tournament-best 2-over-par 74 as the Dolphins took the league title. Quast, a junior whose brother Chris was last year’s boys champion, won the girls side as Payton dominated by 45 strokes. But both realize next week’s regionals will be tougher tests.
“Regionals and sectionals, that’s a whole different ballgame, because you’re playing against all these suburban schools,” said Prosecky, whose team is in the Class 3A Stagg regional at Silver Lake.
The senior had four birdies, one on the 480-yard par-5 18th that pushed him past teammate Javier Lopez (75) for the title. Dan O’Dell’s 78 helped Young score 311, eight shots better than runner-up Lane Tech. ACE Tech’s Chris Young shot an 89.
Quast took up golf only two months before the 2006 city championships and came within a stroke of winning that title. This time she won with a 41 as teammates Marissa Carroll (44), Blake Murphy (44) and Kelsey Iwaoko (46) finished 2-3-4.
“I’m actually really excited for regionals because I think that individually and as a team we have a good chance,” said Quast, whose team will be at Cog Hill with 2005 state runner-up Lyons Township.
