Getting offensive: Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis threw for two touchdowns and four interceptions in his first two games. But Saturday he was a little short of brilliant. In the first half he went 14 of 15 for 186 yards, missing only a deep fly to Raphael Chestnut in the end zone, and accounted for all three of his team’s scores with his arm.
On the defense: Duke’s Patrick Bailey is undersized for a rush end at 6 feet 4 inches and 235 pounds, but he was consistently supersized as he harassed NU quarterback C.J. Bacher and clogged the running lanes to the outside.
The number: 22. The losing streak on Duke’s shoulders when Saturday night opened. But, after Northwestern’s flop, that streak no longer exists.
They’re still talking about: NU coach Pat Fitzgerald’s decision to accept a first-half penalty and give his team fourth-and-3, even though Amado Villarreal had just kicked a Wildcats field goal. The Cats failed to convert.
Sick bay: Running back Tyrell Sutton (ankle) sat out but is expected back Saturday.
Audible: The Wildcats twice unveiled a formation that had receiver Eric Peterman at center, receiver Ross Lane to his right and the rest of the team to the left.
