Talk about your bad timing.
Steve Wilkos’ new show is slated to premiere Monday, Sept. 10, everywhere but Chicago. But Wilkos, who for 13 years was the bouncer on “The Jerry Springer Show,” is cool with that. “Hey, it’s the Cubs,” he told Armour & Co. “I grew up right up the street from Wrigley. I’m a huge fan.”
In fact, Wilkos spent last Thursday morning at Wrigley Field shooting promos to advise Chicagoans that he’s being pre-empted for what has turned into a pivotal home game for the Cubs against St. Louis that Monday. Instead, Wilkos will hit the Chicago airwaves the next day, with back-to-back shows beginning at 1 p.m.
Wilkos, a former Chicago cop, has already taped 30 shows (they built him his own studio next to Springer’s at NBC Tower) and says he has comfortably slipped into his role as talk-show host.

Did Jerry give him any advice?
“Just what he told me when I was filling in as host of his show,” Wilkos told us. “He told me, ‘Just go out there and be yourself; don’t try to be anybody else.’ That I can do. It’s been real easy because I’m just being me.”
