Goodbye, House of Blues Hotel. Hello, Hotel Sax.

The venerable House of Blues Hotel once shared its name with the renowned music venue. But then Utah-based management company Gemstone took over almost 18 months ago and spent $17 million overhauling the hotel from top to bottom, lobby to lounge.

What emerged is the Hotel Sax (333 N. Dearborn St.; 312-245-0333), a stylish, urban-chic hotel in one of Chicago’s most envious locations. Nestled in the middle of Marina City, the hotel sits next to steakhouse Smith & Wollensky, 10pin bowling alley, a Crunch gym and (of course) the House of Blues.

What about the rooms, you ask? Completed in June, the new rooms offer several upgrades. At Play compared a “before” photo (above) of a House of Blues standard room with a standard at the Hotel Sax (below).
