Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Apparently, Daryl Hannah is serious about saving the environment. Her California home is solar-powered, her 1983 El Camino runs on used vegetable oil and — get this — even her throwback Converse All Stars are made of environmentally friendly materials. That’s hard core.

And she’s trying to spread the word (check out her regular video blogs at dhlovelife.com), which brought the Chicago-born actress to this weekend’s Health Freedom Expo in Schaumburg, where she spoke on Saturday.

“It’s a constant process of learning and education,” Hannah told us Friday after visiting Mayor Richard Daley’s rooftop garden. “I learn so much from going to different events. I find out the most cutting-edge technology and the things that people are doing to try to live in a way that’s way more sane for us. Everywhere I go, someone turns me on to something else amazing that’s going on.”
