NASCAR filed a $100 million countersuit against AT&T in Atlanta federal court Sunday, claiming wrongful interference with Nextel’s exclusivity agreement to sponsor America’s top racing series.

AT&T was granted an injunction last month to allow changing brand logos from Cingular to AT&T on Jeff Burton’s car. NASCAR had refused to allow the change, citing a 10-year, $700 million deal with Nextel to sponsor the series in return for being the exclusive wireless brand, except that Alltel and Cingular were grandfathered into the agreement.

NASCAR, maintaining that AT&T was not one of the brands grandfathered in, declined to allow Richard Childress Racing to change the logos on Burton’s car. AT&T sued, winning an injunction in May.
