The fourth season of the acclaimed “Battlestar Galactica” will be the last, the Sci Fi Channel confirmed Friday.

“This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end,” executive producers David Eick and Ron Moore said in a statement. “Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms.”

The fourth season’s 22 hours will include a two-hour stand-alone episode, “Razor,” that will air in November, and which centers on Galactica’s sister vessel, Battlestar Pegasus. The rest of Season 4 will debut in early 2008.

As for the series’ ending, Eick and Moore promised the show will go “out with a bang.” “Battlestar Galactica” has won a Peabody Award and regularly appears on critics’ Top 10 lists.
