Monica Goodling walked into the Judiciary Committee hearing room Wednesday with the air of royalty. There were so many cameras that Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) had to ask photographers to leave the room and return in shifts.

She was composed throughout the daylong hearing, and said her real self is not the image depicted on the Internet, television and newspapers.

“At heart, I am a fairly quiet girl who tries to do the right thing and tries to treat people kindly along the way,” said Goodling, a 1999 graduate of the law school at Regent University, which was founded by televangelist Pat Robertson.
