Cabela’s is the Nebraska-based outfitter for hunting, fishing and all kinds of outdoor gear and clothing.
Though there are fewer than 20 U.S. stores (one is planned for Hoffman Estates), Cabela’s has more than $1.5 billion in annual revenue mostly through mail-order sales. The catalogs are sent to 50 states and 120 countries, according to the company line.
I first stumbled into a Cabela’s store in Kearney, Neb., several years ago and, though I don’t hunt or fish, I’ve been hooked ever since on their clothing. Even if you don’t buy anything, the catalog is a fascinating peek for many of us into an unknown world.
