Time for sippin’ o’ the green shakes

If you’re a fan of McDonald’s Shamrock Shakes, be glad you live in the Chicago area. Although the minty green concoction is available “in the majority of the country” until St. Patrick’s Day, “it’s a local market decision whether to offer it,” says Danya Proud, a spokeswoman for McDonald’s USA. That’s why you’ll find many Internet postings decrying the demise of the shake, introduced in 1970, and providing recipes for making a reasonable facsimile at home. Lucky for us, we in the Land of Daley get the real thing.
