Because of declining numbers of runners and corporate sponsors, the Village Board is considering making the town’s annual Labor Day run the last one.
“As we are seeing a decline, we would like to have the event go out on top rather than trickle away to nothing,” said Village Manager Tom Mick.
The village’s Scenic 10 race, marking its 30th anniversary this year, has drawn runners from as far away as Kenya and Morocco. Mick told trustees that the village’s cost to sponsor the race has been as much as $50,000.

At the 10-mile race’s high point, as many as 520 runners participated. But that number dipped to 368 in 2004.
In addition, sponsors have contributed as much as $25,000, but that has declined as well, Mick said.
