Powlus to coach Irish QBs

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis will officially introduce two new members of his staff on Friday. Ron Powlus, currently Notre Dame’s director of personnel development, will be elevated to quarterbacks coach and Corwin Brown, formerly the New York Jets defensive backs coach, will become the team’s defensive coordinator. Powlus, who has been primarily responsible for the administration of Notre Dame’s recruiting efforts, was the Irish quarterback from 1994-97. He started 44 regular season games and was a two-time captain. He replaces Peter Vaas, who has been linked to several assistant-coaching positions in the NFL. Brown, a Chicago native, will take over as defensive coordinator for Rick Minter, whose status is unclear.
