The charms of the TAFFYs, back for a third go-round in the Movies section, are twofold: Teens get the chance to voice their choices for the best in 2006 cinema, and three entrants will win valuable prizes!
Here’s how it works. Take a look at our categories and send your picks by e-mail or regular mail to the Movies section. We’ll tally up the favorites when the contest ends at noon Feb. 16 and announce the category leaders in the Feb. 23 section. That week, we’ll also randomly draw three entries and pronounce them the first-, second- and third-place winners.

Here’s the fine print for the TAFFYs
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. Here is your chance to vote for your favorite movies and actors/actresses of 2006. Teen Awards for Favorite Films of the Year (“TAFFY”) Contest (“Contest”) begins on 1/19/07 and ends at noon on 2/16/07.
1) Eligibility. You must be a legal resident of Illinois and be between ages 13 and 19 at time of entry. baiduhai (“Sponsor”) employees or its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, attorneys (collectively, “Sponsor Parties”), and each of employee’s immediate family members and persons who reside in the same household as employee are not eligible. Void where restricted or prohibited. All federal, state and local laws apply.
2) To enter, submit an e-mail to [email protected] or mail a handwritten letter or postcard. Your entry must include(a) the words TAFFY CONTEST either in the e-mail subject heading or at the top of your letter or postcard; (b) your name, age, street address, telephone number, and e-mail address (if any); (c) your vote in each of the following categories for movies of 2006: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Special Effects, Best Hero, Best Villain; and (d) a description, in 15 words or less, of what you think is the Best Movie Moment. Mail-in entries must be sent, postage paid, to TAFFYs, c/o Movies Section, baiduhai, 435 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611, received no later than noon on 2/16/07. Limit one entry per person, and one entry per envelope. Entries that do not contain all contact information as set forth above will be disqualified. Entries are the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Sponsor reserves the right to edit, adapt, use, trademark, copyright, publish and/or transfer any submissions without compensation or credit to you. Mechanical reproductions of original entries, mail entries with private postage meter, and entries not in compliance with these rules are not eligible. Internet entries may not be made by proxy or by third party software/mechanism to automate entries. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, incomplete, illegible, damaged, or scrambled entries. In a dispute over the identity of an online entrant, entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail account indicated by entrant’s e-mail address. Your contact information is collected only for the purpose of administering this Contest and will be deleted after the Contest is over.
3) Prizes/Odds. 1st Prize: One Winner will receive a $100 movie theater gift certificate and 3 movie DVDs. (ARV is $159.97.) 2nd Prize: One Winner will receive a $50 movie theater gift certificate and 2 movie DVDs. (ARV is $89.98.) 3rd Prize: One Winner will receive a $25 movie theater gift certificate and 1 movie DVD. (ARV is $44.99.) ARV of all prizes is $294.94, depending on the DVDs selected. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. One prize per person. Sponsor will select the gift certificates (which are subject to the movie theater’s policies) and DVDs. Gift certificates do not guarantee seating in the theater and are subject to availability and theater schedules. Expenses not specifically provided for in these rules are the responsibility of winners. Winners will be responsible for the reporting and payment of all federal, state, and local taxes. Prizes cannot be refunded, substituted, sold or transferred for consideration. Sponsor may substitute prizes of equal or greater value due to availability. If a winner is unable to accept a prize or is ineligible, another winner may be selected.
4) Drawing/Notification. On or about Feb. 16, 2007, under Sponsor supervision, a 1st Prize Winner, 2nd Prize Winner, and 3rd Prize Winner will be randomly selected (in the above order) from all eligible entries. Winners will be notified on or about Feb. 16, 2007, by e-mail or phone, and may be required to complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity Release (“Release”), within seven days of issuance of winner notification, or prize may be forfeited. If a winner is under the age of majority, prize will be awarded to winner’s parent/legal guardian on winner’s behalf. Parents/guardians of underage winners may be required to sign, on his/her own behalf and on behalf of winner, a Release. Except where prohibited, acceptance of any prize constitutes permission for Sponsor to use each winner’s name, likeness, videotape, voice and photo for promotional and publicity purposes at no additional compensation. Sponsor will not be liable for: (i) failed, returned or misdirected notifications; or (ii) entries and responses to notifications which are lost, late, incomplete, illegible, damaged, failed, returned or otherwise not received.
5) Administration. Sponsor is not responsible for any computer, technical, or human error that compromises the administration of the Contest. If Contest integrity is compromised, Sponsor may cancel the Contest and select winners from eligible non-suspect entries received prior to cancellation. By entering, you agree that: (i) you have read, consented to and complied with, and will be bound by, these Official Rules; (ii) Sponsor’s decisions will be final and binding in all Contest matters; (iii) the Sponsor Parties and each of their officers, directors, employees, representatives, shareholders, and agents (collectively, “Released Parties”) shall have no liability and shall be held harmless by you or your representative for any damage, injury, loss or liability relating to or arising out of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize or participation in this Contest; and (iv) in the event of any third party claims, damages, losses or injuries or death relating to or arising out of this Contest, and/or your use of any prize, you will indemnify each of the Released Parties from all such claims, including attorneys’ fees.
6) TAFFY Winners. TAFFY winners will be determined by the highest vote getters in each category.
7) Official Rules/Winners’ List. Prize winners and TAFFY winners will be available in the Feb. 23, 2007, Movies section, or at www.chicagotribune.com on or about Feb. 23, 2007.
