An e-mail printout led to robbery charges Wednesday against five people, including two Harper College football players, who were accused of stealing about $1,300 from a woman as she left a Hoffman Estates currency exchange, authorities said.
Investigators found the printout, which apparently was dropped or blew out of a van as the suspects fled from the parking lot of the Hoffman Estates Currency Exchange, 1033 Roselle Rd., authorities said.
Hoffman Estates Police Sgt. Jim Campbell said one of the suspects followed a 23-year-old woman into the currency exchange Friday night and saw her cash a check. He tipped off the others, who pushed the woman from behind as she walked to her car and grabbed her wallet, Campbell said.
The woman was not injured.
Charged with robbery were Dominique N. Burton, 19; Dareayl D. Cromwell, 19; and Marcell C. Phiffer, 20, all of the 600 block of Bode Circle, Hoffman Estates; Quintin M. Williams, 19, of the 700 block of Bode Circle, Hoffman Estates; and Nicholas G. McGinnis, 19, of Indianapolis, Campbell said.

Police said the suspects are students at Harper in Palatine, but a college spokesman said only Burton, Phiffer and Williams are students. Phiffer was a sophomore defensive back last fall for the Harper football team, according to a roster on the college’s Web site. Burton, a freshman, was a linebacker.
The spokesman said it is school policy to let legal proceedings run their course before disciplinary action is taken against students.
Police said Cromwell’s bail was set at $50,000 at a hearing Wednesday afternoon in the Rolling Meadows branch of Cook County Circuit Court.
Bail for Williams was set at $40,000, police said, and bail for the other three was set at $30,000 each.
