Village officials hope a special census to be conducted in the coming months will show that Plainfield has added 4,000 residents since the last census was taken in 2005.
Trustees approved the partial census and its cost of $242,390 at a Village Board meeting this week.
The special census will be the fourth since 2000. The village has an official population of 30,314, but officials believe thousands of residents have moved into the village’s growing west side.
For each additional resident, the village would add $110 in federal and state funds to its coffers, said Community Development Director James Testin.
