“AWOO”
RATING: 3 SOUND LEVELS
Boasting a shiny, happy people R.E.M. orchestral folk, rock sound, “AWOO” is a wild ride of melodic refrains and sonic orchestrations from beginning to end. The band’s fourth record brings to mind work by the Magnetic Fields, Talking Heads, The Shins, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Morrissey, among others. Gay themes that have been very obvious on previous releases aren’t as pronounced on the group’s fourth album. The chamber-pop sound is still going just as strong as it ever was. “AWOO” is a breath of fresh air, a virtual heaven of harmonization that jingles and jangles and is, at its core, just a really fun, entertaining ride.
