NOTRE DAME

Given that Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn is still an outside contender for the Heisman Trophy this season, would coach Charlie Weis leave Quinn in a game longer than the score and situation warranted to help him add to his numbers? “No, I would not do that. . . . I’m not going to risk Brady Quinn for stats,” Weis said. . . . Although tight end John Carlson won’t see action until Notre Dame’s bowl game, Weis said his injury should require only time to heal. “He doesn’t need a procedure. He just needs time,” Weis said. “[It was] severe enough where if I play him in the USC game, I could do damage. So that would not be a smart thing to do.”
