While there was movement near the top of the Bowl Championship Series rankings after previously unbeaten USC’s loss to Oregon State, Notre Dame remained behind the Trojans, who fell from third to eighth. The Irish are ninth. Notre Dame’s slim BCS title game hopes would have benefited from playing an undefeated USC team Nov. 25. But, Irish coach Charlie Weis said, “If you’re just watching the scoreboards, you’d like for them to win. But just like they’re not rooting for Notre Dame to win, it’s tough for me to say I’m rooting for them.” . . . Kickoff coverage and returns were among the high points of Notre Dame’s 38-14 win over Navy, Weis said. “They started on the 21.7, and we started on the 31.5 on our drives, which is a first-down difference between the units,” Weis said.
