About 180 employees in Glenbard High School District 87 will get raises of 3.5 percent in each of the next two years after the school board Monday night approved a new two-year agreement between the district and its support staff.

Increases, mostly for secretaries and teachers’ aides, will be retroactive to July 1, the expiration date of the last agreement, district officials said.

The cost to the cash-strapped district will be $170,000 this year and $174,000 next year. The contract will be in effect through June 30, 2008.

The agreement was reached after 10 months of bargaining between the district and representatives of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

The union ratified the agreement Oct. 19.

Negotiations with the district’s teachers’ union are expected to start in early January, district officials said.
