After studying the Illinois game films, Penn State coach Joe Paterno has favorable reviews for freshman quarterback Juice Williams. “He has done an outstanding job,” Paterno said. “He is probably as good a runner as we’re going to play against.” Williams is the Illini’s second leading rusher with 306 yards on 78 carries. He hasn’t run for any touchdowns but has passed for eight. Williams’ ability to get touchdowns by throwing the long ball overshadows the Illini’s effectiveness in the red zone. They have scored 14 of the 15 times they have penetrated inside their opponents’ 20-yard line.
