SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

Southern Illinois was roughed up on and off the field Saturday at Illinois State. The Salukis lost 37-10 and fell to 13th in the Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA rankings. During the game, Redbirds fans pelted the Salukis’ bench with plastic mini-footballs and ISU was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. . . . SIU was held to 191 yards rushing on 42 attempts, the first time this season it was held to fewer than 200 yards. . . . Kicker Craig Coffin is five points shy of the Gateway Conference scoring record. Coffin, who had an extra point and a field goal against ISU, has scored 331 points. He hasn’t missed an extra point in 28 tries this season and is 8 of 8 on field goals.
