Make Looking Good Look Easy
By June Ambrose (Simon Spotlight Entertainment, $19.95)
Celebrity stylist June Ambrose promises to raise “your fashion wattage,” but no worries, a celebrity salary is not required to tap into your inner star power. What really makes or breaks an outfit? Confidence. “It’s all about working around the imperfection,” writes Ambrose, who has styled Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Kelly Ripa and Mariah Carey, to name a few.
1. On $150 jeans: “If you find a pair of jeans that are fashionable, fit you perfectly, and flatter your ass to no end, aren’t they worth the price of admission?”
2. Celebrities and models “always have marked soles or a permanent grip stuck to the bottom” of their shoes to prevent slipping.
3. If a ball gown’s crinoline netting has lost shape, “just turn the dress upside down, shower it with holding hairspray and then hit it with a hair dryer.”
4. “Like a relationship that’s not working, you need to ignore the separation anxiety and get rid of” bad clothes.
5. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but if you do, put it toward the things that give you the biggest bang for the buck: shoes and bags.
