Rent. Rent. Rent. It’s what you do with videos at Blockbuster. It’s the name of a Broadway musical. It’s something you hand over to the landlord on the first of every month.
So what happens when you need to rent a 5-foot-tall, gold-plated espresso maker?
Event planner Ken Shoemaker knows where to find one, and last week he helped one of his clients do just that.
As director of operations at Noteable Event Productions in Lombard, Shoemaker has heard his fair share of strange and unique rental requests. He said as the economy grows, his clients are willing to spend to be more elaborate.
“They’re pushing the envelope in making the event different,” Shoemaker said.
Luckily for us, Chicago is a city where, for the right price, you can claim temporary ownership of just about anything.
Yes, you can rent the area’s prettiest stadium for your next company softball outing. Yes, you can rent a sushi chef to create elaborate maki rolls for you and your guests. You can even hold your next party aboard a moving CTA train.
So just sign on the dotted lines, as At Play lets you in on a few things in the city that you probably didn’t know you could rent.
Oh, and about that fancy espresso maker? Look inside.
