Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The area’s prettiest baseball stadium not named Wrigley or Cellular is a steel and brick throwback nestled among the rail tracks and church steeples of downtown Joliet.

But Silver Cross Field hosts just 48 games for the minor league Joliet JackHammers, a dozen high school games and several concerts throughout the season. Which means during the rest of the year, you can rent the stadium and host, quite possibly, the coolest company softball outing ever.

A $1,000 flat fee will get you daytime usage at the four-year-old stadium. The price includes access to the bluegrass playing field with major league dimensions, the dugouts and box seats at the stadium. Nighttime playing is $150 extra an hour.

Beyond that, a public address announcer and scoreboard operator can be hired together for $50. The hot tub along the first-base line can be rented for $100.

And consider other cozy amenities at the 7,500-capacity stadium: the picnic area beyond the outfield, where one can watch firefighters lie atop their engines on a lazy autumn afternoon. The little tykes can play in the kiddie playground near the left-field seating.

Said JackHammers general manager Kelly Sufka: “We take care of people when they come here.”
