Frankfort Township Trustee Nella Piccolin is being recommended to fill the county board vacancy created by the resignation of longtime Board Member Mary Ann Gearhart Deutsche.

Piccolin, 57, is midway through her second four-year term on the Frankfort Township Board. A Republican committeeman for 20 of her 25 years as a Frankfort resident, she previously served as president of the Frankfort Park Board.

Republican Chairman Jack Partelow said Thursday that he submitted Piccolin’s name to Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who is responsible for forwarding the recommendation to the county board for formal action. The board is scheduled to meet Thursday.

Partelow, who selected Piccolin from a field of nine candidates, described her as “very well regarded. She knows the issues.”

Piccolin would represent the sprawling District 1, which covers large chunks of western Will County.

The County Board, she said, “is very close to the people. As Will County continues to grow, it’s very important that no mistakes are made with all of this growth.”

Gearhart Deutsche resigned in August after 21 years on the board.
