Therese (Sarah Lassez) may have a brain tumor, or maybe it’s mad cow disease. Either way, it gives screenwriter-director Gregory Hatanaka an excuse for a lot of scene jumping–and a chance to make the case for adopting a vegan diet.

Therese is a meat inspector with a messed-up personal life, which includes an affair with a televangelist (Walter Koenig, “Star Trek’s” Mr. Chekov, sans accent), a dying mother, an ex-husband, an unfortunately close relationship with her meat-importer brother and a weird thing for a bad kung-fu movie about the “Girl With the Thunderbolt Kick.”

The “something is wrong with her brain” element casts a doubt on everything she says and does. Did the Canadian beef that she got from her brother really give her mad cow disease? Can’t be sure, might be the tumor talking. Did she really sleep with her brother? Ditto. Did she train in martial arts so she could kill a bunch of people a la the “Thunderbolt Kick” girl? Yeah . . . can’t say for sure . . . the brain thing. Is Koenig so tired of signing autographs for Trekkies that he’d appear in about half of this film? Probably.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a good post-viewing argument about what it all means and what really happened, this is a great film.
