Senior Joe Brockington had a solid game Saturday filling in for linebacker Travis Thomas, who was out with sore ribs. Given that Notre Dame has only one more game before its open date on Oct. 14, would coach Charlie Weis consider leaving Brockington in as the starter to allow Thomas almost a month of recuperation before returning Oct. 21 against UCLA? “I would say the answer to that question would be yes,” Weis said. “I thought Joe was fairly solid. But I’ll see how it goes. I’m kind of in that situation with a few other guys too. But our goal is going to be to win this game. What you don’t want to do is not put your best team out there.”
