Convinced that mixed up and untimely mail delivery could be improved, Village Trustee Tom Collins is working to bring a post office to Alsip.

Collins has traveled to Springfield to lobby the issue and inquired at the federal level about bringing a post office to the village of 21,000 residents.

Alsip has its own 60803 ZIP code, but relies on the Mt. Greenwood facility for collection and delivery. So far the village has not been formally denied a post office, he said, but his appeal has not made much progress.

Representatives from the U.S. Postal Service and from the 1st Congressional District are invited to discuss the issue at a meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 in Village Hall.
