Forest Preserve District commissioners on Thursday agreed to pay $10.4 million for 420 acres in southwestern Will County.

But commissioners postponed action on two proposals involving 74 acres in Homer Township.

Homer Glen representatives, who attended the meeting on Thursday but did not speak, have recently lobbied to keep 60 acres near Interstate Highway 355 for potential commercial development to add to the young town’s tax base.

District commissioners were scheduled to pay nearly $6 million for that parcel and to add 14 acres to their list of potential acquisitions.

Commissioner Kathleen Konicki (R-Homer Glen) told the town’s officials that she and the two other County Board members representing the village were behind the move to send the two controversial issues back to committee for further discussion.

“They will have time to process the proposal,” Konicki said. Konicki said village officials previously had not voiced opposition to the acquisitions.

Approved without discussion were payments of $49,250 an acre for 120 acres near the Village of Manhattan and $17,500 an acre for 300 acres near Wilmington.
