New York has Fashion Week, Chicago has Fashion Focus and Highland Park is slipping in its very own Fashion Week too. Well, actually, it’s more like Fashion Weekend (Thursday through Saturday), where Highland Park retailers will introduce 2006 fall and 2007 winter collections.
Here are the highlights: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday: Refreshments, special events and trunk shows await shoppers at many Highland Park stores, including the Linda Loudermilk eco-friendly collection at Bett’s, 678 Central Ave., and the versatile “SKIF” line at Pieces, 644 Central Ave.Noon Friday: Discover fall and winter trends at the “High Time High Fashion” show and luncheon at the Highland Park Country Club. The Sip & Shop Fashion Show uncorks the mystery by pairing wines with shoes. Silvery sandals? Try sauvignon blanc.
Elaine Honig of Honig Vineyard & Winery will “pair” shoes with wines. Also, designer shoes and “Shoe Make-Over” auction packages will be part of a silent auction.The event is Thursday at River East Arts Center, 435 E. Illinois St., and raises money for UNICEF Girls’ Education Programs.
UNICEF is hosting the fashion show, which is part of a two-day Wine, Women & Shoes Chicago. On Wednesday, dinners featuring wine by female Napa Valley vintners will be held at select Lettuce Entertain You restaurants in Chicago and Northbrook.
