Q needed a change from its regular meeting fare of Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins, so a certain vegetarian editor snapped up Nutrilicious’ vegan Donut Holes from Whole Foods ($3.99 for a 5-ounce box).
Months of research on Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins’ flavors had revealed a strong preference for the chocolate and glazed varieties. Less research was done on the nutritional aspect of said Munchkins, although the vegetarian editor cheerfully pointed out one serving of Munchkins (consisting of a mere three doughnut holes) delivers a whopping 13 grams of fat. That’s saturated and trans fats, not the healthy olive oil sort of fat.
Would the good-for-you nutritionals of Nutrilicious doughnut holes win over the staff? After all, the vegan doughnut holes are dairy-free, egg-free, even trans fat-free. Although there are only 7.5 grams of fat for three vegan alternatives, the real test is the taste.
Here’s some of the more printable commentary heard ’round the table during the Nutrilicious taste test, leading us to conclude that Nutrilicious will not be replacing Munchkins on a regular basis.
