Burglars crack safe in heist at jewelers

A jewelry store safe was cleaned out of $100,000 in valuables during a brazen rooftop heist Sunday night, police said.

Burglars cut a hole in the roof of the Streets of Burbank Mall, 4829 W. 77th St., lowered themselves into Brandon’s Jewelry Store and cracked open a large safe, said police Capt. Joe Ford.

“It’s a burglary, but it is obviously a little better thought out than smashing the front window,” Ford said.

Police are following up on several leads, Ford said.
