Voters will have their say in November on a proposal to hike the sales tax rate by 0.5 percent.

Retail purchases within the village now carry a 7.75 percent sales tax for every dollar spent. The village’s 1 percent share generates approximately $700,000, according to Mayor Ed Guzdziol.

An increase, if approved, would provide $350,000 a year and take some financial pressure off the cash-strapped village, he added.

Trustee Mary Rhein said that even if the rate hike passes, Worth would still have the lowest sales tax rate in the area.
