Urban Gateways: Center for Arts Education said Tuesday it will hold all of its matinees for children this season at Millennium Park’s Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
Tim Sauers, Urban’s program director, noted that his non-profit organization has appeared at the Harris in recent years but that having an exclusive presence there for student matinees “should give us stronger visibility downtown.”
In its 45-year history, Urban has presented at many area theaters and museums as well as in numerous schools.
Sauers said his group also looks forward to working with more arts groups on Harris’ schedule that would like to supplement their regular performances with those for children.
Michael Tiknis, Harris managing director, said some of a two-year, $100,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation will help subsidize Urban’s theater rental fees.
Urban is to present five programs between October and March, beginning Oct. 27.
