A Naperville promoter says there is a slim chance of resurrecting an outdoor concert series abruptly silenced while awash in red ink.
“A number of issues are being addressed at a variety of levels” in an attempt to continue the program at Silver Cross Field, said Joe Hill, spokesman for promoter Group 7.
Hill said the “whole range of scenarios” under consideration include the possibility that “a different management group might run a couple” of the four canceled concerts.
But Hill is not optimistic that the concert series can be revived. Advance tickets are being refunded where patrons bought them.
Group 7 had planned seven concerts spanning different styles of popular music throughout the summer at the downtown baseball stadium.
Hill estimates the promoters spent $250,000 on advance promotions and commitments to performers, then lost $100,000 to $120,000 when rain and cold temperatures contributed to a disappointing crowd at the first concert, which was made up largely of 1960s-era bands.
By the third concert, it was clear the series was in trouble. Group 7 notified sponsors last week that the four remaining concerts were canceled.
“It’s been a very difficult situation,” Hill said. “It’s been very disappointing.”
