Word that driving while talking on the cell phone is more dangerous than driving while drunk got us thinking about a lot of things. First, this is serious stuff, and yet DWTs can be seen everywhere, even in Chicago, where it’s supposed to be illegal except with hands-free devices.

The University of Utah researchers found, however, that it didn’t matter: Hands-free or not, the brain apparently isn’t free. In the testing, the talkers caused three rear-enders, and the .08 drunks had no accidents. That said, we’re all aware of the knock that “women drivers” get, but knowing what we know now, who is this more likely to affect, men or women?

Well, a survey by Cingular shows that men talk on their cell phones an average of 546 minutes a month, versus 470 for women. And this has been the result for six years in a row. Bottom line: Friends don’t let friends talk and drive.
