Illinois coach Bruce Weber has added another highly regarded player to his 2007 recruiting class. St. Joseph’s Demetri McCamey, one of the state’s top point guards, has made an oral commitment to the Illini. He was wooed by Kentucky, Connecticut, DePaul, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, among others. A stocky 6 feet 3 inches, McCamey is built similarly to former Illini star Deron Williams, now with the Utah Jazz. McCamey joins Indianapolis guard Eric Gordon, Riverton center Mike Tisdale and Peoria Richwoods forward Bill Cole. Illinois has one scholarship left, and the most coveted candidate is Derrick Rose, the Simeon guard considered by many recruiters to be the country’s No. 2 prospect.
