Sure, the Rolling Stones are defying time, still singing about dangerous beauties and driving too fast. For the rest of the Baby Boomer generation, though, the self-made promise that “I’ll never get old” is becoming increasingly harder to keep.
So Houston husband and wife — and former ’60s rockers — Barry and Bobbie Siegel figured it was time for Boomers to have some “age-appropriate lyrics” for their now-golden-oldie music.
“We watched rock-revival shows, and we still loved the music but thought it looked a little ridiculous for 60-year-old men to sing about who they were going to take to the prom,” Barry Siegel says.
Eager to return to performing now that their children are grown, the Siegels have formed a rock revival/revision group. They succeeded in persuading semiretired entertainer Dean Scott to head the Deja Boomers as a lead singer who could also provide comedy and do some impersonations.
The DBs perform songs of the ’50s and ’60s both as they were written and with new parody lyrics, most of them written by Barry Siegel, about what Boomers might have on their minds now.
