In the end, family counted for more than anything else when Wheaton Warrenville South running back Dan Dierking made an oral commitment to Purdue on Saturday while visiting in West Lafayette. “My mom (Erin) went to Purdue, my dad (Scott) went there and my sister Caitlin is going to be a junior there,” said Dierking, a 5-foot-10-inch, 190-pound second-team All-Stater who rushed for more than 2,200 yards and scored 38 touchdowns in his junior season. Scott Dierking was an All-Big Ten running back with the Boilermakers before going on to play seven years with the New York Jets. “Oh yeah, I’m going to try and break all of my dad’s records,” Dan said with a laugh.
